چکیده

We develop ForecastICU: a prognostic decision support system that monitors hospitalized patients and prompts alarms for intensive care unit (ICU) admissions. ForecastICU is first trained in an offline stage by constructing a Bayesian belief system that corresponds to its belief about how trajectories of physiological data streams of the patient map to a clinical status. After that, ForecastICU monitors a new patient in real-time by observing her physiological data stream, updating its belief about her status over time, and prompting an alarm whenever its belief process hits a predefined threshold (confidence). Using a real-world dataset obtained from UCLA Ronald Reagan Medical Center, we show that ForecastICU can predict ICU admissions 9 hours before a physician’s decision (for a sensitivity of 40% and a precision of 50%). Also, ForecastICU performs consistently better than other state-ofthe-art machine learning algorithms in terms of sensitivity, precision, and timeliness: it can predict ICU admissions 3 hours earlier, and offers a 7.8% gain in sensitivity and a 5.1% gain in precision compared to the best state-of-the-art algorithm. Moreover, ForecastICU offers an area under curve (AUC) gain of 22.3% compared to the Rothman index, which is the currently deployed technology in most hospital wards. Prioritization of COVID-19 Patients for Admission in the Intensive Care Unit in the Context of Hospital Bed Shortages: An Integrated Multi-criteria Decision Making Approach

Background: When an epidemic occurs, resources, including hospital beds, are severely limited and not all patients can be treated; so, hospital bed rationing is inevitable. Therefore, the aim of this study is to provide a method for evaluating and prioritizing patients with COVID-19 for admission to the intensive care unit. Methods: This was a descriptive-survey study in terms of data collecti...

Association between admission hypomagnesemia mortality or mortality of critically ill patients in intensive care unit

Background: Up to now there is no study evaluating correlation between serum magnesium and morbidity or mortality in patients admitted in intensive care unit. The aim of this study is to determine the prevalence of hypomagnesemia in critically ill patients and to evaluate its association with organ dysfunction, hospitalization period and mortality. Methods: We conducted a retrospective trial ...

Nursing Care and Documentation Assistant with an Electronic Nursing Management System in Neonatal Intensive Care Unit

Background: All nursing cares require decision-making, and the ability to make the best decisions impact upon the quality of nursing care. Moreover, authenticity and accuracy of the best cares may be questioned if not recorded and reported properly and in a standard manner. We aimed to design and implement an electronic nursing managementsystem and then evaluate satisfaction of nurses with the ...

Predicting mortality for patients with exacerbations of COPD and Asthma in the COPD and Asthma Outcome Study (CAOS).

INTRODUCTION Decisions about the intensity of treatment for patients with acute exacerbations of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (AECOPD) are influenced by predictions about survival and quality of life. Evidence suggests that these predictions are poorly calibrated and tend to be pessimistic. AIM The aim of this study was to develop an outcome prediction model for COPD patients to supp...
